6.0 Dummy Plugs Updated For 6.0L Powerstroke Trucks

Dummy Plugs

Ford 6.0L Powerstroke trucks have updated standpipes and dummy plugs. To replace the standpipes and dummy plugs, first remove the valve covers. For old dummy plugs, use a 10mm Allen wrench, while for newer standpipes, use a 12mm Allen wrench. Once the plugs are removed, install a new PTFE washer. This will prevent the plug from leaking oil and contaminate the exhaust.

PTFE washer

The OEM 6.0L Powerstroke stand pipe was updated to include PTFE washers to prevent high pressure oil problems. This kit includes updated plugs, stand pipes, and PTFE washers for one engine. These new plugs are compatible with 2004-2007 Ford F250, F350, 450, and E-Series 6.0L diesel vans. These updated plugs replace the old-style rail plugs with the same ODID dimensions and hex drive.

The Teflon material is highly resistant to water and chemical reaction. Its high melting point and excellent chemical resistance make it suitable for equipment systems exposed to water and lubrication. Nylon, on the other hand, easily mixes with water and is better for electrical conductivity. Compression molding and compression stamping processes are effective in producing identical washers in large volumes. Thousands of these washers are produced each day.

Symptoms of o-ring failure

If you’ve been running a 6.0L truck for some time now, you may have noticed some odd noises coming from your engine. This is because the o-rings in the plugs are prone to failure. If your 6.0 Dummy plugs are in good shape, they will continue to keep a good pressure inside the engine, but once they fail, the engine will start to leak internal oil. Fortunately, Ford made new stand pipes and dummy plugs with white Teflon rings under the plugs. These are designed to stabilize the O-rings, preventing them from rolling or tearing.

A leaking ICP valve can cause a stall or no start, but fortunately, Ford has updated the stand pipes for all 6.0L Powerstroke engines to make sure they’re o-ring-free. These dummy plugs and stand pipes are compatible with all Ford 6.0L trucks built after 9/22/03.

Updated stand pipe and dummy plug kit is required for 6.0L Powerstroke. This kit includes 6E7Z-9A332-A standpipes, W302908 plugs, and PTFE washers. This kit replaces the older style dummy plugs, which have a 1/2″ square drive. The updated parts require a 12mm Allen wrench. The updated plugs fit 2004-2010 Ford E-Series 6.0L diesel vans.

The Ford Motor Company issued updated injector rail plugs to correct a known issue. The original design included one O-ring, while the updated plugs feature two Teflon O-rings. They also fit the square EGR cooler and are required to have two plugs per side. Ford recommends replacing the dummy plugs with new ones. While Ford Motor Company is working to resolve the known issue, this update is not complete.

Symptoms of injector rail plug o-ring failure

If you suspect that you have a faulty injector rail plug, you may want to replace it as soon as possible. The old style plugs are notorious for o-ring failure and can cause a loss of ICP pressure. The new updated plugs have a back up PTFE washer to prevent reoccurring failure. They are also compatible with 2004-2007 Ford F250, F350, and 450 diesel vans.

If you suspect your fuel injector o-ring is faulty, the first symptom is fuel smell. This happens when the o-ring is damaged or is leaking enough fuel to upset the air-fuel ratio. A bad o-ring can cause an engine to misfire, lose power, accelerate slowly, and decrease fuel efficiency. In severe cases, your engine may even stall. These symptoms usually come after you smell fuel in the engine bay.
