Apple TV Plus Dances The ‘Cha Cha Real Smooth,’ Buys Sundance Hit For $15 Million

In what has become an annual trend, Apple TV Plus opened its own beautiful package to collect another great Sundance Film Festival song, this time, putting $ 15 million into Cooper Raiff’s Cha Cha Real Smooth.

Raiff wrote, produced, directed and starred in the film, about a 23-year-old aimless school named Andrew trying to find his life and career. He lives in the New Jersey home of his mother (Leslie Mann) and stepfather (Brad Garrett), and works at Meat Sticks, a restaurant with a really good restaurant name.

As it happens, Andrew falls into the trap of being the “party star” at many local weddings, bar mitzvah and bat mitzvahs. He is also trying to enter into a relationship with Domino, a young mother played by Dakota Johnson (also revered as a producer), and his autistic daughter Lola (Vanessa Burghardt), a schoolboy, and Andrew’s brother David (Evan Assante).

Last year, Apple set a Sundance record when it paid $ 25 million for CODA, the story of Sian Heder for one hearing member of a deaf family. The Oscar-winning film Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur and Emilia Jones (Locke & Key) won four awards at Sundance, and was a huge hit when they first appeared on Apple TV Plus. Kotsur and the cast have all been nominated for the Screen Actors Guild awards, among others.

Like CODA, Cha Cha Real Smooth has a very accessible and common story line that gently integrates interactions between people with a disability in the wider world. In Cha Cha’s case, a sweet friendship between Lola’s autistic and Andrew of Raiff.

The news of the acquisition came just hours before Apple reported a record $ 124 billion record for its holiday quarter, the majority driven by iPhone sales, but also strong growth in its Services section, including the TV Plus subscription service. Apple does not disburse revenue from TV Plus and other Services components, which reported a peak of $ 19.5 billion in quarterly revenue.

His company’s episode projects include the acquisition of the high profile Foundation that featured this fall on TV Plus, as well as the Altered Carbon of Netflix and Grace and Frankie.

January has brought many book deals to writers for children and adults topics in a wide variety of genres and topics.

Macmillan Children’s Books publisher Samantha Smith and co-publisher Sarah Hughes have obtained UK and Commonwealth privileges in partnership with St Martin’s Press to write Casey McQuiston’s first book, I Kissed Shara Wheeler, reports The Bookseller. And maybe — maybe not, but maybe — there is more to Shara. ”

Bloomberg reports that Kellyanne Conway’s work with Simon & Schuster imprint Threshold Editions for memoir Here’s the Deal “cost seven prices, according to a press release specialist.” In a statement issued by the publisher, Conway, who was Trump’s campaign manager and senior adviser during the Trump administration, said, “Long before I joined the Trump campaign and the White House, I did my job by calling things like me. I saw them, with no notes in front of me and no net under me. the same principle applies to it, which should appeal to the general public and to the general public. ” Conway will report on the audiobook of the May 24 issue.

None of this is intended to mean the ups and downs of the market. To say that I am not interested in both is disrespectful, but the fact is that no matter where we are on the road, my approach will be the same: build.
